Need help getting Sony DAT tape drive to work on Irix 6.5
I am trying to restore a DAT backup from 1996. I borrowed an SGI Octane with Irix 6.5. I have the proper SCSI cable and terminator. The DAT drive I have laying around is a Sony SDT-5000 in a generic enclosure. The SGI does not recognize it. Is this drive supposed to work with SGI? If not, what used/cheap drive can I look for on eBay?
Thanks. |

Update. I gave up on that drive and got an SDT-9000. I put it in an external enclosure and it powers on but the computer does not recognize it either.
In theory, should the computer just recognize a new tape device or do you need to manually do something? I tried it with and without internal termination and term power. I tried it with and without an external terminator. I need ideas. |
