I have seen what others have written but I used to be almost exclusively
mozilla and then firefox but over time I have switched almost exclusively
to Konquerer. It does so much more and I cannot see the point in
switching
to another browser when Konquerer downloads with Kget and does the ftp
etc.
It is so much better that a little loss of eye candy is not important to
me.

Thanks for that.

it to expect it to display and function correctly on other flavours of
Linux?
If you are developing, you should never assume anything. Try it and see.
Get a virtual machine system like VMWare etc. and load up a few flavours
to
find out. Generally I am sure that you will not find any difference but I
would not assume that to always be the case. I think it is more important
to try the various browsers though.

I agree. That's why, for the moment at least, I'm sticking with SuSE and how
the various browsers run on that. I guess if I get an important enough
support call / complaint from a customer who's running on another flavour of
Linux, I'll consider that situation on its own merits... |

| Quote: | Hi,
My main reason for getting a Linux box was to allow me to test the
websites I develop on that platform. I chose SuSE 10 on a colleague's
recommendation, having never really had any significant exposure to Linux
before, and installed the latest versions of FireFox, Netscape and Opera,
Konqueror being already there.
So far so good. I've just gone through a fairly major exercise to bring
all my websites up to XHTML compliance, and everything seems to function
pretty well on FireFox, Netscape and Opera, but not so well on Konqueror.
Specifically, <div> and <table> tags don't always align correctly or, at
least, in the same way as they do on when viewed on the other three
browsers, either in Linux or Mac or Windows.
So, a couple of questions:
1) How important is Konqueror? By that, I mean are people generally using
it for internal network browsing, file management etc but using another
browser for Internet browsing?
2) If a site displays and functions correctly on SuSE, how reasonable is
it to expect it to display and function correctly on other flavours of
Linux?
Any assistance gratefully received.
Mark
I tend to use Firefox as my primary browser, mainly because it is the same |
on all the OS's I use
On linux however I do use Konqueror quite often as my "safe" browser as I
don't have any plugins installed, so nothing to launch silently
automatically and screw up my system . I use KMail, which uses
Konqueror's engine to display RSS feeds and HTML in mail messages.

Same here--I turnoff cookies, java, javascript, and plugins in Konqueror
but have them turned on in Firefox. If as you mention something in Kmail
looks legit, I first open it by default with Konqueror. If it needs more
functionality, I use "Open With Firefox" from Konqueror "Location" to do
additional review with cookies, etc. turned on.
Of course, this isn't intended to be the perfect solution for malware. I
just like knowing there's one more hurdle for some vandals. :)
