DVD region code removal?
|
|
|
Guys,
Sometimes when I go to the States I buy cheap Region 1 DVDs.
Unfortunately my TV DVD player is Region 2 only (as is the DVD player in
my computer!). Yeah, I know, buy a region free player..... but....
Back in the days when I used that OS from Redmond, I used to use
CloneDVD in conjunction with AnyDVD to remove the region code on the fly
and copy the DVD. Then I could use the region free DVD and store the
original safely (which is a good thing to do... it's not the first time
I've had to make another copy after the first copy got damaged.... kids
will be kids!!!).
Now, is there an equivalent to AnyDVD in linux that will remove the
region code on the fly whilst I use K3B or something like that to copy
the DVD? This is one of the last things I need to figure out and then
I'll be able to do everything in linux that I could do in that other OS.
BTW, using SUSE 10.1 x64 and have already installed libdvdcss so I can
play R-2/R-free DVDs. |

afaik that is illegal, at least here in "the states" and most likely in a
lot of other countries too. However, I don't know of any linux program that
removes the region code, just some which can copy video dvd's to the
harddrive. But I think that wine & dvddecrypter used to play well together.

To play encrypted DVD's you'll need: libdvdcss2
This will also remove the encryption.
To backup your DVD's you can use K9Copy.
This works just like DVDShrink.
