debian install

just did my first debian install. boots into command line after i log
in. how can i load a package, either from the cd i created from the iso
image, or from the debian website, to give me a gui to work with?

You don't specify whether or not you have already installed X, Gnome, KDE,
etc., but chances are that you did. At your command prompt, after login
try typing "startx" sans quotes and see if it doesn't take you where you
want to go.
