We are not linux experts per say. We use SME linux for DHCP and gateway
and squid guard. for filtering

Our ISP says that we are letting out our internal IP addresses and is
asking us to stop it.

Can anyone give any advice on how to stop this from happening.

Thank you.

Ask your ISP specifically WTF they're talking about.

I have no idea what he is talking about.
What is your internal IP address? Is it a 192.168.x.x or 10.y.y.y type
address. In that case it does absolutely no good to anyone if they have
it.
What does he claim he is talking about?

Would it be a problem to his ISP if he is using a 10.y.y.y if his ISP
uses the set. I know Comcast.net uses it to manage the cable modems.

It could be, but that doesn't mean that the OP is "letting his
IP addresses out". I'm with another poster: ask the ISP what
they're talking about. Or, for the OP perhaps, tell us specifically
what they said to you; maybe you're misinterpreting what they asked.

I understand where you are comming from and agree.

I was fishing for information about the question I had asked. Smile

After reading the responses from others, I'll hazard a guess that
maybe something is broken in your network address translation in your
gateway, and packets intended for local consumption are getting across
it unaltered.

Only a guess, mind you...

As others have mentioned ... without more information it is difficult
to understand what is going on.

Another possibility is that the OP's internal DHCP server is trying to
service (responding to) outside requests, or requests originating from
the ISP's other customers.

Do you have your router and modem connected via a switch?

OT, but...

I did this for a shared connection before I got a router, then went wireless.

I had workgroup access through the switch.(yes windows)

And, as long as the unit connected to the modem for setup was powered up, any other plugged into the switch had access to the internet.

Including my first experiences with linux distributions.

You asked the question. If you do not know what the question means, why
should we be wasting our time trying to answer it?
