wireless tools update to v28
|
|
|
I would like to know how to update the wireless tools. i'm currently
having the v27, do I need to recompile the kernel with the wireless
tools unchecked and then install the tools from sources? |

no. you must compile a new kernel, and only if your wireless extensions
is older than v14 (quite old).
see this:
iwconfig --version
iwconfig Wireless-Tools version 28
Compatible with Wireless Extension v11 to v20.
Kernel Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v20.
ra0 Recommend Wireless Extension v14 or later,
Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v20.
on the other hand, it could be nice to have newer wireless extensions
since some drivers need it.
if you need to use older kernel, here are the wireless extensions in form
of kernel patches (so ie if you want 2.6.16.x with wireless extensions 20
like me)
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Tools.html
and use wireless tools source from current of course, fix processor
optimization in slackbuild to your version of slack/gcc. |

I was confused between wireless extentions and tools. |

be free to ignore... specified package's slackbuild does not have
optimisation
see here...
ftp://ftp.slackware.at/slackware-current/source/n/wireless-tools
btw...
afaik, for most packages Slackbuilds, on slack 10.x
SLKCFLAGS="-O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686"
on slack current which will become 11..
SLKCFLAGS="-O2 -march=i486 -mtune=i686" |
