Hi there!
I have an Athlon 2800 on a ASRock K7S8XE+
I bought an Maxtor DiamondMax 10 Hd just for Linux (I'm leaving Xp!)
The Mobo supports Sata 1 so I set the maxtor jumper to Sata 1 mode
The problem is that I don't see it

Do I need to update the bios?
http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?Model=K7S8XE%2b#bios

I also tried to install the drivers just for xp, from sata website,
Sata Raid 304, but the
problem is the same...

Regards,
Stefano

My best guess based on googling your motherboard is that it consists of
a SiS 748 northbridge and a SiS 963L southbridge. The latter would be
where the SATA support would be defined. It would probably be supported
by the Linux kernel's "sata_sis" driver.

Since that chipset combination's about three years old, probably all you
need is a Linux distribution with a recent installation kernel.

No.

In general, don't look to the manuacturers for Linux drivers except as a
last resort.
