I compiled kernel 2.4.27 with usb support. But when I pluged in a USB
stroage disk, I always found the following message:

usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout

Why?

My release is Debigan sarge.

Please help me.

In comp.os.linux.setup leeward.xie@gmail.com:

Firstly, please stop multi posting. If unsure what the fuzz is
about, scroll down and check the post: "A new reader? Welcome to

Back to your question, it seems 2.4.32 is the current 2.4 kernel,
unsure why you compile such an old version?

In general USB support has been approved in kernel 2.6, you can
iirc switch to kernel 2.6 using 'apt-get' with debian.

But we don't know if your usb mass storage device is supported at
all, most are. Failing any information about the device, I'd try
booting a *recent* Knoppix CD and check if it can detect the
device, then use 'dmesg', 'lsusb' and 'lsmod' to gather what it
has done/used.

Good luck
