Windows computer name
|
|
|
Hi,
There is a obsd gateway in my client site connected to few windows
machines. In this obsd gateway, if I want to find out a windows computer
name, what command/program I can use to do that? There is no samba
install in this gateway.
Thanks

You dumbass just posted the same question on comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc.
Just how many "gateways" do you have on that network? Or are you just a
congenital liar?

Why be impolite? Quite unnecessary. |

Then you have failed to read the article posted by "sam" on c.u.b.f.misc.

Hi,
There is a freebsd gateway in my client site connected to few windows
machines. In this freebsd gateway, if I want to find out a windows

Now compare that article to the OP in this NG:

Hi, I remember when I used OpenBSD 2.8 6 years ago, it was not stable
when the system under heavy traffic load. I wonder whether this had been
completely improved to match FreeBSD performance? Had its kernel
completely rewritten based on FreeBSD kernel source?? |

Perhaps in the first two messages he's speaking rhetorically? As in "let's
imagine I'm running an OpenBSD/FreeBSD machine etc...". And perhaps he's not
a native English speaker.
Or perhaps he's a troll. No matter. I still don't see the need for napalm.
YMMV.

Sam Woo speaks English perfectly well. He is still a liar.

Perhaps it would have learned by now to RTFM first, then put some effort
in a usable question. It has been told before, but it never catches up.

Do pay attention. It's not the first time this character has popped up.
Every few months it morphs and fires inane questions all around until
everyone has it killfiled again, only to restart the cycle later.
As far as I am concerned, just killfiling it is the easiest. But
otherwise, do as you please, I stopped caring long ago. Though defending
its virtues, if any, does seem to be one of the more futile endeavours
you can come up with.

Whoa - steady on. I'm not defending the troll. There are ways of dealing
with trolls, both in real life and on Usenet, that preserve the dignity of
the respondent (not the troll) rather more effectively. I'm heartily tired
of gratuitous flames.
And yes, I know the OpenBSD culture is famously flameworthy . But Theo and
others are mostly justified in their flames. I do worry sometimes that
flames here are considered hip. If so, that's trollish behaviour too, and
*that's* what I object to.

1.
Edit your /etc/hosts file and add IP and computer name...
or
2.
Enable BIND and configure it...
