How to perform search in gnome terminal?

Hi.

I have Debian Sarge 3.1 r2, with Gnome.
It seems that the gnome terminal does not support
word search? It looks strange to me, 'cause it's
an important function: I couldn't find any item
that would do that.
Any hint?
