Will xPDF read encrypted files (like eBooks)?

I can download some free eBooks from my country library but they are
encrypted and will expire after 7 days from when downloaded. The only
version of Adobe Acrobat that I could find that supports Solaris x86 is
version 4 but that is too old and won't read encrypted PDF files. Does
xPDF read encrypted PDF files?
