addvol of new volume to production database file domain

i manage a tru64 5.1a cluster. i am running out of space on the file
domain that contains my production database. (scsi disks in our HP
MA8000 san) this domain consists of 6 36 gb, striped mirrors by the
san so we have approx one 104gb partition presented to the server. we
wil lbe migrating to hp-ux soon, so i'm i don't want to reinvent the
wheel and completely reconfigure the disks, so i just need a workaround
that will get us by for a few months. what we did on the san was throw
in 2 more 36gb drives, mirror them on the san so we have a 36 gb lun
that i will just use addvol to add the 36gb lun into the filedomain.
will this hurt performance at all? since we have striping of the 3
mirror sets by the san on the first lun, then tru64 is striping the two
luns into one filedomain, is this not optimal to have striping on 2
different levels? also willl the data that gets put on the new lun be
any faster/slower than the data on the old lun? i have been up for way
too long (other migrations taking alll nighters) so i might not be
making the best of sense right now |
