Hi,

I just received 256Mb DIMM modules to upgrade my Octane workstation, so I
folleowed instructions from the Octane User Guide to remove the system
board :
- disconnect everything -> done OK,
- connect to a ground wire -> done OK,
- unscrew the two screws that secure the system board -> done OK,
- lift up the two handles simultaneously to unlock the system board -> done
OK,
- pull the system board with the module handle -> can't !

The module lift out for about 6-7 centimeters and then it block on the
upper corners. I feel when pulling something prevents the translation on
the upper guide ! Maybe something twisted ?

That's my first Octane, and I brought it from eBay so I don't hnow its
history... And I don't know what to do to release the system board...

Any ideas ?

moreover, i tried to remove the platic case as explained ont the Octane
Owner's Guide (to look if I could find something that would explain why I
can't release this fu^W system board :
No way to remove the top cover ! manual says "locate on the side where to
press and then pull forward. If it don't move, press better..."

I searched where I'm supposed to press, but I found no location to press (I
mean I feel to unlocking when pressing on the zone indicated on the
manual).
By the way, I tried to press an pull, but nothing moves, except the whole
station !
Rahh, Indy is so easy to open !

So I'd like to know if there is a tip not mentionned on the Owner Manual to
move up this plactic case !

Make sure the lockbar is not installed. It prevents not only the front bezel
but also the system module from being removed.

so long,
Timo

yes, I firstly forgotten the lockbar, but I reminded it when I saw it

didn't pull-off (after tried to pull firmly...)
Note, when lockbar is in place, the system board to move _at all_ !

And then I removed it and try again, and then the system board slides about
6-7 cm and then get locked :(

I hesitate to pull to hard : I don't want to break something inside it !
Maybe should I remove the front plane to be able to view what does wrong ?
But I'm supposed to remove system board and XIO board _before_ removing the
front plane ! Does anybody already done that ?

Try the instructions in this thread:

It sounds surprsingly similar to the situation you describe.

and you're right, it was the honeycombs bars that are twisted on my System
! I removed the frontplane (and done some cleaning Wink to untwist them. Now
the system board slides smoothly Smile and I get 1Gb RAM... and a clean case
with no more dust !

Special thanks to Andreas who contacted me by mail and gave me a lot
usefull tips :)
