Support for Conceptronic USB 2.0 card?
|
|
|
Hello...
It is the first time I try to use a "probably not supported" cardbus
device, but I have a chance to get one of these new USB 2.0 cards
for free. It is a Conceptronic USB 2.0 card. I cannot detect it
using usbdevs( . In fact, only the on-board USB is shown using
this command:
# usbdevs -v
Controller /dev/usb0:
addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x8086), rev 1.00
port 1 powered
port 2 powered
If I am not wrong, this card should be supported by the ohci(4) driver,
as this card is a USB Open Host Controller:
Mar 28 10:43:48 localhost /netbsd: cbb1: wait took 0.009597s
Mar 28 10:43:48 localhost /netbsd: (manufacturer 0x0, product 0x0) NEC USB Host Controller (USB serial bus, interface 0x10, revision 0x43) at cardbus1 dev 0 function 0 not configured
Mar 28 10:43:48 localhost /netbsd: (manufacturer 0x0, product 0x0) NEC USB Host Controller (USB serial bus, interface 0x10, revision 0x43) at cardbus1 dev 0 function 1 not configured
Mar 28 10:43:48 localhost /netbsd: (manufacturer 0x0, product 0x0) NEC USB Host Controller (USB serial bus, interface 0x20, revision 0x04) at cardbus1 dev 0 function 2 not configured
But, from the output of the operating system, it is obvious that it isn't
supported on my current configuration.
I have a Dell Latitude CPi R400GT running NetBSD 3.0.
Are there plans to support this USB 2.0 card in a future OS release?
Should I disable the on-board USB before using this card? (I hope that
it will not be required and certainly I cannot see why it should be
required at all...)
Cheers,
Igor. |

Ok, fixed...
I looked carefully at the GENERIC_LAPTOP kernel configuration file. This
kernel provides support for ohci(4) only when connected to a PCI bus
by default. After building a customized kernel with ohci(4) support
on the CardBus controller, all is working.
I suppose that support for ohci(4) devices in both PCI and CardBus
concurrently is something that is not possible... I guess I will
need to build a customized kernel since now. Well, I certainly
prefer running a well-tested GENERIC kernel but it will be not
possible if I want to use that card.
Thanks a look for looking at this thread!
