Hi everybody:

There is support for suspend to disk by software in NetBSD? (something
similar to hybernation in Windows or swsusp2 in Linux?)

If no, there are some works about it or some projects implementing
something like that?

Best regards,

Ernesto

It is an ACPI stage (S4). I think that it is not currently supported
by NetBSD, but I may be wrong as a february release of Intel's ACPI CA
has just been imported to the base system.

There is a thread in the tech-kern@ mailing list on this matter
right now (Call for testing: ACPI standby/suspend support). This is
one of the posts on this thread related with the S4 implementation:

http://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-kern/2006/03/10/0019.html

I hope that this thread will help you and that someone with a good
knowledge on ACPI (I do not have required skills!) will work on
supporting this state soon.

Until then, you must check the BIOS features provided by your computer.
If you run APM instead of ACPI, you will probably be able to suspend
to disk your computer. My laptop (a Dell Latitude CPi R400GT that runs
NetBSD 3.0 now) can be suspended to disk by pressing <Fn><a>.

By the way, an ACPI uniprocessor kernel in the installation media
would be great. Perhaps someone will listen! ;-)

Cheers,
Igor.

There are several things that should be developed before we will make
the jump into the NetBSP ship.... ACPI support, more hardware drivers
and better video card drivers support, I think....

Reliability, performance, scalability, good UI and all that stuff is
already implemented :)

Thanks a lot

Certainly nobody will stop you from developing them.

It's a _volunteer_ project, after all.

You're very right!!!! But I have nothing about ACPI implementations,
NetBSD memory management and all that very very specific information.

I really wanted to collaborate for it, but I dunno where to start!
