NetBSD On SGI
|
|
|
I'm just curious as to whether anybody here is running NetBSD on an SGI
machine? Personally, I'm running the 2.1 release on an Indy R5000SC. I
would much rather be running IRIX on this machine, but I just don't have any
IRIX media to perform the installation.
Anyway, anybody else running NetBSD on an SGI machine?
Regards, |

Why? There´s plenty of IRIX media at ebay. |
Believe it or not: Nothing matches IRIX on SGIs O2. |

I occasionally run diskless NetBSD on an Indy because its hard disk is small
and horrible..

I concur. an IRIX CD kit may not be very cheap, but it is quite available.

If you want to have USB, Firewire, or WLAN on that O2, the best course is
to run NetBSD. The drawback is that you lose most or all specific hardware
features (UMA, ICE, audio/video, etc.). In the near future I hope to run a
IRIX/NetBSD hybrid with most of IRIX userland superseded by NetBSD and its
ports system.
By the way, I just found out that NetBSD 3.0 does not yet support the
RM 7000C CPU. I will file a bug report and try to help them with the fix.
But this becomes rather off topic for an admin group, so I'll shut up now.
