I am writing to remind you that the early bird registration deadline for
FAST '05 is Monday, November 21, 2005. Register early to save. We hope
you'll join us for the 4th USENIX Conference on File and Storage
Technologies (FAST '05), December 13-16, in San Francisco, California.

File systems and storage continue to be active focus areas for
researchers and technologists in operating systems, computer
architecture, distributed systems, networking, mobile computing, and
computational science. FAST '05 will bring together storage specialists
from all of these areas in a unified, high-quality forum.

New in 2005, the FAST program now offers tutorials. Taking place on
Tuesday, December 13, the half-day tutorials give you the opportunity to
learn from leaders in storage technologies, including:

-- Jim Plank, University of Tennessee, on Erasure Codes for Storage
Applications

-- David Nagle and Brent Welch, Panasas, on Object-based Cluster Storage
Systems

-- Spencer Shepler, Sun Microsystems, on NFS Version 4 (The Inside Story)

-- Ahmad Zamer, Intel Corporation, and M. K. Jibbe, Engenio Information
Technologies, offering SNIA Tutorials: SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel, and
iSCSI Storage Protocols

The FAST '05 program includes 25 technical papers carefully selected
from a pool of 125 submissions by a program committee of 17 leaders in
the field. These papers represent outstanding work in the area, with
topics ranging from logic models to coding techniques and from
flash-based sensor devices to correcting more than two failed disks.

A Work-in-Progress (WiP) session will also be held. If you have work you
would like to share or a cool idea that's not quite ready for
publication, please submit a WiP. Send a one- or two-paragraph summary
to fast05wips@usenix.org by December 1, 2005. Students are encouraged to
submit WiPs to seek feedback on their research from the FAST community.
Work-in-Progress reports will be short, typically with only a handful of
slides.

FAST '05 promises to be an exciting conference presenting leading
examples of current research and a strong vision of the future of file
and storage technology.
