Hello,

I'm running OpenBSD 3.5 with few services which I'd like to keep up
and running all the time. When I need to do HW upgrades or other
maintenance tasks which requires downtime, I switch all services to
a Linux box. To be able to keep all services running for all users,
I have the same user base on Linux machine that I have on OpenBSD
box.

So, my problem is, that I don't know how to convert the passwords from
OpenBSD to Linux. Just copy pasting the password from /etc/master.passwd
to /etc/shadow doesn't work. I couldn't find any information about
conversion from FAQ either. There is section about converting passwords
from Linux to OpenBSD, but it just doen't work the other way around

Thanks for any suggestions.

BR,

- Tapo

You probably will not have much success with that since OpenBSD uses
blowfish encryption by default and Linux systems use MD5. You might
consider using a second OpenBSD machine instead.

But if your Linux supports blowfish password encryption see the man page
on Linux for pwconv.
