Hi,

After installed clam0.82 from the ports, I got this error "Error:
Database initilzation error". This is probably not related to the
version of clamav I install. It was happened before in the older verison
0.80. I started clam-fresh first and start clamd second. I have check
the database directory in /usr/loca/share/clamav, which is exist.

Can anyone fixed this problem before please tell me how to fix this
error? I m running FreeBSD 5.3 stable.

Thanks
Sam

I can offer no solution, but I've been seeing the same thing here. Looks
like the trouble started when the clamav people decided that a small
change in the database file format was in order, forcing people to
upgrade. For some reason, the port is still not in sync with the new
database files, it seems.

Something strange is that after a while (don't know how long and how

many times I restarted the system), it started successfully.

I found it is not the version problem. I compared the version between

two machine, one is working with clam another having the problem and
made sure the versions are the same by copying the working one's pkg tbz
file over another and deinstall the faulty one and install this tbz file
in the problematic machine. But the problem still exist with
initialising the virus database. Then I suspect may be there is no db
files in the /usr/local/share/clamav directory, so I copied the
daily.vcd and main.vcd from the working machine to the problematic
mahcine, and execute clamav-clamd.sh start, now it started up successfully.

This is trouble. I can't affort to copy the virus db from another
machines every time when I install a gateway for my client.

I guess the real problem is, if there is no network access the Internet,
the clamd/clamd-fresh program can't fetch the virus db to the database
directory, so clamd always will keep failing until Internet is reachable.

Sam.
