FreeBSD install guide w/ Active Directory domain membership instructions
|
|
|
Hello all,
I wrote a brief FreeBSD 5.3 installation guide targeted at system
administrators with some UNIX, Linux, or Windows experience. This
document includes information on how to join a FreeBSD system to an
Active Directory domain. I included my notes on updating FreeBSD and
installing and updating third-party software from ports, as well as
pointers to various resources and documentation on the FreeBSD web
site. You can find my document at:
http://web.irtnog.org/~xenophon/freebsd-install
There are a number of gaps, such as mounting SMB/CIFS shares
containing users' home directories or problems obtaining group
membership data via Winbind's NSS module. As I discover solutions to
these problems, I will update the document.
As always, I am interested in any feedback, constructive or otherwise.
Feel free to contact me at "xenophon+usenet@irtnog.org".
Best wishes,
Matthew

Nice. I've just spent half a day trying to figure out what I'd done
wrong as I couldn't get domain groups to enumerate I wonder if
there's anyone working on this. Beyond me, I suspect, so I'll watch
with interest for any developments.
Thanks for the pointers,
Steve. |

Steve,
Upgrading to Samba 3.0.11 fixed this problem. Both 'pw user show' and
'pw group show' work properly now (although for some reason, only the
"Domain Users" group doesn't have any members listed, possibly because
it is the POSIX default group for all the user accounts)
I updated my installation and AD member documentation, re-organizing
it into two separate documentation. I am preparing several other
mini-HOWTOs that all build on each other, so this new document layout
suits my purposes better. You can find my updated installation guide
at http://web.irtnog.org/~xenophon/freebsd/install. This covers basic
installation and configuration (e.g. NTP), operating system updates,
and third-party package management. You can find my updated Active
Directory domain member instructions at
http://web.irtnog.org/~xenophon/freebsd/winbind.
Best wishes,
Matthew
