By the way, why so many OSes? Are you a developer or something?

Yep! I do a lot of on-site work. Linux is my main work OS, but I prefer BSD
in some ways, and if we can get all of our toolset working there I may
switch to it. Win2K is useful for working with some Windows client
networks; and native WinXP is useful if you want to get a new bit of
hardware working quickly e.g. a memory stick, a wireless card or a
cellphone.

The laptop has an 80GB disk. Upon reflection the Win2K should ideally
be under VmWare from Linux, and each OS needs access to an encrypted
filestore to ensure that customer data isn't compromised if the
machine is stolen.

If you are mentioning the VmWare route, did you consider going VmWare (or
VirtualPC for that matter) all the way? One single host OS and multiple
guest OSes sounds way more feasible than what you are trying to
accomplish. Especially considering your encryption needs, since you will
only need one single encrypted file system.

That's a thought! I could run both Win2K and BSD as guest operating systems
under SUSE. Vmware implements a virtual Ethernet switch so that the
network packets flow without hindrance to and from the correct OSes.

Cheers!

- Martin.
