Keyboard problem with KDE 3.3.92
|
|
|
Has anyone solved the keyboard problem which occurs when KDE 3.3.92 is
installed. As someone else has mentioned the keyboard is totally
unresponsive if I start SuSE 9.2 at runlevel 5. I finally had to use
Knoppix to change the default runlevel to 3 after which I was able to log
in. If I then start KDE using startx I have a working keyboard. |

.... in the future, all you have to do is type a '3'
at the grub prompt to boot to runlevel 3

Where did you get .92 from, if it was not released yet? There are not even
tarballs in the ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable directory.
Maybe one should not install software which has not yet been officially
released. Yet, you could file a bug report in order to get it fixed ASAP,
if it is a bug and not due to early delivery of beta2 packages.
Apparently what one has to do is put the following line into the [General]
part of /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
ServerVTs=-7

I should since I'm of German descent (many generations ago) but my father |

I use apt-get to update with the default sources.list from gwdg.de. The
files were found under the suse-people part of the apt repository. And
you're absolutely right but I just can't seem to resist trying the latest
software.

That gave me back the keyboard but kde wouldn't load and left me with a
blank screen. Yet everything works if I boot into level 3, log on then
start X manually. Strange. |

The essence of the german thread in

[...]
There is a new KDM-Option:
ServerVTs=-7
Quote:
# VTs to allocate to X-servers. A negative number means that the VT will be
# used only if it is free. If all VTs in this list are used up, the next
free
# one greater than the last one in this list will be allocated.
# Default is ""
ServerVTs=-7
and for no good reason this one is missing in
/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
while
/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
has it.
Set this option within the part called
{General]
ServerVTs=-7
and everything should be fine.
The original poster confirmed.
Hope this helps. |
