Get acces to local windows discs and network ?
|
|
|
Hi..
I'v installed SuSE 9.2 at my laptop as Dual System.. All my docs og stuff,
is at my local windows disk. And can se it, and transfer it to SuSE, but I
can't save at the windows disk, why is that. ??
Another problem:
The Latop is in a LAN, with internet access. The internet works fine, but it
cant see my workgroup or the other 4 windows computers in the LAN. When I
try to search, nothing comes up. My other windows computer can not see to
laptop with SuSE..
Btw. everything works if I use WinXP at my laptop, so it can not be the
cabels...
....

Probably because the file system is ntfs. Linux defaults to read-only
access to ntfs due to the lack of MS supplied information about this
filesystem.

Run Yast from the System menu and make sure you have the correct
workgroup settings in the Network Services/Samba Client section.

ntfs as mentioned in another post. Interestingly I happily found that it
is possible to both read and write to (ntfs) on other ('doze) computers
on my lan. It seems that it is not 'linux' working accross the lan, but
'samba' (using smb protocol) so it works :-)

samba, network services, samba client
(also similarly samba *server* - if you want to see your laptop *from*
the 'doze machines)
also Control Centre, internet & network, Local network browsing
(seems relevant for me since all my machines need users to log on)
