Graphics Card and Monitor setup
|
|
|
Hey,
While trying to install Suse 9.2, the installation program correctly
identifies the video card (a Trident 9880) but incorrectly identifies my
monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster 710N, I assume because the monitor is
relatively new. What driver should I use instead? I tried the generic LCD
1280x1024 @ 60 Hz driver and got a blue screen and a totally locked machine.
Thanks for your help,
Steve |

Look at the parameters in your manual what to run.

Personally, I think most sports fans are a little "gay". They'd
rather watch a bunch of sweaty guys jumping all over eachother,
than, say fashion TV - where hot models walk down the runway. |

Sorry...forgot to mention I had entered the horiz and vert parameters from
the manual as well.
Any other ideas?
Appreciate your help,
Steve

Try using a monitor of lower id in sax2.
I had a similar problem with Syncmaster 793df, which is not in the list. I
used the nearest available below, and that worked.

In Yast. where you choose your monitor, there is an option "Manufacturers
disk". Giv it a try, I think it will work.

Also set the screen resolution to what you need i.e. 600X800, 1024X788
, 1240 X 968 etc. It may be possible some reslolution modes will not work
with your card. Aso set the colors 16bit, or 12 or 8 bit or what ever, with
the resolution mode. If SAX kicks it out then you have to readjust to other
parameters until it works properly. Make sure your Horz and Vert sync rates
are correct for this moniter as specified by the manufacturer. I have a
unsupported Xerox LCD moniter and it works great. A little experimentation
will find the correct settings.
