Strange ps behaviour???

Hello list.
I am running OSF1 V4.0 Patch 440.
I have the ps command behaving very strange.
When i do
bash%ps aux

And then instantly reentering the same command i have the normal
ouptut.
I have used the ps binary from the operating system CD ,considering
that the /sbin/ps could be somehow corrupted
but still the same results.
What could be the hint for this problem ???
