I realize that Fedora Core does NOT come with MP3 support. However, how
do I go about getting mp3 support? I've tried downloading and
installing the latest version of XMMS from their website (thinking that
their version might have built-in mp3 support) -- only when I go to
install it, I get a message telling me that the application is already
installed. And when I go to uninstall XMMS (so I can install the
version I've downloaded), I am for some reason NOT able to (???).

Arghhh .. surely, this can't be as complicated as it seems. What's the
trick?

Thanks,
- yvan

p.s. Is there some other media player that I can install on my system
that will give me mp3 support? (preferably something that's packaged
with all the required libraries, and that comes with a single,
stand-alone installer).

rpm -e xmms
then
rpm -Uvh xmms.dloaded.from.xmms.org.rpm

Just go to rpmfind.net and search for xmms-mp3
