Suse installation fail from ISO imge on Cd...Help
|
|
|
Hi,
Current_System: I've Winxp on my master HD and will install Suse onto a
Slave HD
Burned iso image of "SUSE-Linux-10.2-mini-installation", booted from
cd, it reads hardware stuff, asks me where to boot from (i ans: Cd),
but then it says "Make sure Cd1 is in the drive" and once I hit
okay....error: "Can't mount the image". NO CLUE WHY WON'T IT READ THE
DAM THING.
Once, its about to exit...it says "md: switched to read only "...what
does it mean???
Also, when exatcly does it ask me the drive on which to install the
Suse caz. i don't wanna end up writing over the current C:/winXP.
Thanx. |

you have to bypass that message, then specify that you
want to install from an FTP source. i know that it
doesnt seem clear with the "make sure the CD1 is in
the drive" message, but you to continue beyond that
and specify the FTP installation source

But what if he forgets? |

Is your ISO image properly downloaded? Your may do a MD5 checksum.
ISO image requires a different step of burning process. If you are using
NERO, choose Recorder -> Burn Image, instead of a normal burning process.
Hope this helps.

I fig. it out (after ganging my head 100 times) just right b4 i read
your email; however, no it says that it can't detect my Network Card.
I've Linksys(LNE100TX)
and there is no module for it in the Suse OS either. Now i'm trying to
find out on how to over come this hurdle so any
hint/suggestion/solution would be greaaatlyy appreciated.......going
back to my never ending journey.....
Thanx. a Bunch. |

Sherry, did you try the advise I gave you a few days ago?
You need to type that in at the boot prompt. After you select "install,"
don't hit enter until you type that in. Then YaST should automatically go
to the site, automatically configuring your network.
I can tell by your post you didn't do it this way. Try it. If YaST still
can't configure your card (which I doubt), check the Suse site for the
correct driver for your card. The driver descriptions in YaST don't list
every card, just chipsets. There is a list somewhere that tells you which
driver works with which card. But if you try the above method, this
shouldn't be necessary.
