How to install Suse 9.2.iso after mounting this image
|
|
|
Hi,
(I'm new to linux installation)
I downloaded the "SUSE-Linux-9.2-mini-installation" but when i mount
the image,
I don't see anything (like setup.exe) that would start the installation
process?
How do i install the suse from this image?
Also, I have two HD w/ WinXP on the master and Suse will be installed
on the slave....Just needed help to make sure that linux does not
overwrite my WinXP
boot.ini. What do i need to do to make sure that i get an option when
starting up the computer. HELP
Thanx in advance. |

Boot from the CD, but you probably need the DVD iso also. |

Well, this is really an RTFM question, but in short:
You need to boot from the CD. So you should burn it if you can. If you
can't, there are other, quite complex ways of doing it from an iso on your
hd, but I don't recommend it.
Don't worry SuSE won't touch your first disk (assuming you don't make a
mistake during installation and tell it to). Just install linux to the
slave (probably hdb in linux speak). Make sure not to format the first
disk, hda. (No "F" next to it in the partitioning screen.)
You shouldn't have any problems.

Oh, one important thing I forgot to mention: The minimum install CD doesn't
contain the distribution itself, just the install program (YaST).
You have to point YaST to the server where it will get the rest of the
files.
To do this, you need to type the following at the prompt, very first thing:
"linux26 install=ftp://<mirror and rest of path>/i386/9.2/"
You can get a list of mirrors here:
http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.html
This should work if your network card can be detected correctly. It is in
most cases.
