Can't login in XDM + keyboard layout questions
|
|
|
Hi, I just installed NetBSD/i368 2.0.2 in Qemu on my Mac (and I've used
1.6 in the past).
My problem is: I can't login in XDM.
The .xsession-errors in my home directory says
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Error: Can't open display: :0
with the default xsession.
I only set XDM=YES in rc.conf. If I don't do that, startx from the
console works perfectly. Any ideas on this?
I've got another unrelated question: I'm using the dvorak keyboard
layout and currently have it set in XF86Config. Is there a way to set
the layout only on a user basis? I know there's xmodmap, but I can
think of better ways to spend an afternoon than remapping every single
key by hand (even downloading a prepared xmodmap file doesn't look too
clean to me; there should be a better way that's more user-friendly than
searching the web for modmaps). By the way: how can I set the console
to dvorak-layout? It's been a few years. Back then I set it to German
layout, but can't remember how.

I seem to remember that you'll have to comment out the line that
says: "DisplayManager.requestPort: 0" in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config .

Yes, there's a line in there that suggests that. Unfortunately it
doesn't seem to do a thing. My xsession starts, but the X clients say
that the connection is refused.
