LOL, pretty funny, I like that, flapping around in shallow water like fish
about to suffocate!

My question to you guys is: have you had same problems with Linux on
Toshiba's laptops?

======================
Some time ago ,I believe in May 05 , I was condsidering buying a Toshiba
wide screen laptop from PC World -Inverness ,here in the north of Scotland.
I brought a Knoppix Live CD ,version 3.7 to the shop and could access the
KDE desktop ; but did not check the HD ,since the machine was preloaded with
Win XP.
Explaining my intention ,the shop assistant insisted that they would ONLY
allow warranty with the OPsystem loaded as purchased.

I suppose their warrenty could say anything they desired, but I doubt that
it actaually does. If you could scan in or post the relevant section of the
warrenty, or anything else which says so, it would be more believable.
That their salesmen/women said so I can believe. That any of them has ever
read the warrenty I strong doubt.

Quote:
That is exactly what the salesperson suggested in this Toshiba case,
when mentioned Linux. Transaction was in New York City metro area in
July 2005. Seems, that they are trained that way. This is not quite
legal here in USA.

What is not legal? A warrenty is a contract between you and the company. It
cannot remove certain legal remedies, so if you got your computer and found
the hard drive was defective, they would have to replace it, no matter what
their warrenty said, unless they specifically said that they were selling
it as is with no warrenty ( and even then they would have a hard time).

HOwever, what a salesperson suggests, and what a warrenty states need not
be the same thing. Read the warrenty.

Compare Toshiba and HP:

This does not suppport in any way the claim that Toshiba excludes linux
from their laptops. Just the reverse.

I can understand MS getting dirtier. But they seem to be flapping around
in shallow water these days. The big names such as IBM/HP/SCS etc used to
play along with MS and keep their Linux input low key. But now when you go
on their sites they are very blatant in their support of Linux.

...but usually not for Laptops. I'm p***ed about IBM for years that I have to
pay MS-Tax when I buy an IBM laptop.....

What a strikingly lucid and illuminating commentary!
