Second Nic does not work
|
|
|
Hello all,
I'm trying to configure a second nic card in a ES40 (5.1B) alphaserver
without any luck. The firmware console and the OS both see the card. But
when I try to bring up the tu0 interface
no traffic seems to going thru it. Ping does not return.
I have already the done the following -
1. on firmware console
set ewa0_mode auto
2. built a new kernel using doconfig.
here are the kernel messages -
( nic card that does not work)
Aug 1 10:52:32 yamuna vmunix: tu0: DECchip 21143: Revision: 3.0
Aug 1 10:52:32 yamuna vmunix: tu0: auto negotiation capable device

Aug 1 10:52:32 yamuna vmunix: tu0: auto negotiation off: selecting

( nic card which works)
Aug 2 07:25:11 yamuna vmunix: ee0 at pci1 slot 6

Does anyone have any suggestions ? does tu0 nic card work with ES40?
thanks in advance |

Don't do step 1. Set the mode exactly as you want it, typing "set
ewa0_mode" without any args will show you what's available.

I think to get Tru64 to use more than one NIC you have to use 'lag'
(Link aggregation). man lag for details.

Thanks for the replies .I solved the problem by putting a newer nic
card.
The one which have the DEC chips are ancient. The card with COMPAQ
Intel 82559 worked without any problems as the secong nic. |
