Remote Sound on SGI Challelnge L (IRIX6.5.20)
|
|
|
As you probably know, the Challenge L is headless and earless (term?
for no sound card?). I have a bunch of linux X servers that I am using
as XDMCP clients as well as a commercial X application fow windows
(XSecure). I want to know if there is a way to setup remote sound FROM
the Challenge L to these terminals? If you could point me in the
direction of a few programs...
Thanks,
Harout Hedeshian |

X does not deal with sound in any way.

It was a long time ago, but I think what we used to use was called xplay.
Handy when playing xpilot on low powered sparcstations, as you could run it
on a remote server, and have both display and sound locally.
A google search for xplay and sparc might lead you somewhere. I don't
recall ever using this under IRIX, mind you, but how hard can it really be?

I know that. That is why I assked if anyone knows of a software that
will transport sound. I was just explaining my setup. |

standard solution is to use NAS; but you will have to
recompile software to use it. AFAIK, there is no way
to tell existing software linked against libaudio to
use NAS instead...
