miniroot install
|
|
|
hello
I'd like to install an indigo2 station (disk crash) with a miniroot
install throw network -- my cdrom drive seems to be (un)dead !!!!
in my server installation (a o2) i activate service tftp and bootp with
those lines in /etc/inetd.conf:

tftp dgram udp wait guest /usr/etc/tftpd tftpd -s
/serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist
bootp dgram udp wait root /usr/etc/bootp bootp

(one line each service)
change the file /etc/bootptab with:

/serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist

and when try to install my indigo2 in "maintenance/install/remote directory"
with hostname = iris12 (my o2) (try with ip too)
and remote directory=/serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist
i have this message: "cannot load
network(0)bootp()iris12:/serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist/sa could not
connect to server"
Data
- /serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist/ is a copy of my irix CDs
- file as is present in /serveur_rose/irix-6.5.11/dist/
Questions
1/ what server does it talk about ? tftp or bootp ? (tftp seem to work
when i log and try to get a file in the dist directory !!)
1bis/ no parameters to change in bootp ???? (like MAC address or
something like that)
2/ what about user guest ? i cant change the password of guest account
to "" (void). how can i do that ? |

There is no need to change bootptab on the server.
But you should set the IP address of the indigo2 in its PROM (select 5
at the startup menu, run setenv netaddr xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
Then tail the SYSLOG on the server (the O2) to see if the Indigo2 can
reach it.
They need to be on the same subnet, or the router needs to be set up
for bootp forwarding (which is usually not set by default).
