Installing packages
|
|
|
Greetings,
I'm a newcommer to BSD in general and NetBSD in particular. I've gotten
it up and running on a laptop and a desk top so far. I have a question
regarding installs. When installing a package, is the install supposed
to add the file that belongs in /etc/rc.d or is that something that I do
manually? Thanks. I'm actually enjoying NetBSD more than Linux, not
that i've managed to do much with either...

Generally a well put together package will include an example rc.d/ file
in ${LOCALBASE}/${RCD_SCRIPTS_EXAMPLEDIR} which is likely
/usr/pkg/share/examples/rc.d/filename
You just copy that to /etc/rc.d/ then set the proper variable in
/etc/rc.conf
often filename=YES
Good luck!

Thanks! Thats what i've been doing but wasn't sure it was correct.
Actually i've never changed any of the package variables so the file
tends to be in the /usr/pkgsrc/<package>/work directory. Thanks again.

I use links, that way i never have to worry about updated rc.d-Scripts.
