I have used HP L&TT to update a library of 7 SDLT tape drives to the
latest firmware - nice timesaver utility over using scu or a firmware
tape!. However, as expected the hwmgr -get attribute -id <tapedev_id>
command still shows the old firmware registered against all these
drives.

I would like to have the hwmgr database updated with each of these
devices new firmware revision.

In this instance I have over a dozen alphaservers sharing these drives.
So any command to carry out an update/refresh the database would be
ideal.

I am looking for an alternative to the long winded approach:

Quote:
delete tape device;
scan scsi bus,
use dsfmgr -m to move new tape device number to the previous number
(for consistency with backup software)

This means doing this 7 x number of alphaservers.

Surely there must a better way?

OS: Tru64 5.1B PK4

Regards

Let me explain fully.

Firmware revision on drive was 4B4B upgraded and now 5555.
OK perform a hwmgr scan scsi.
Now perform command

# hwmgr -get attribute -id <HWID_TAPE_DEVICE>

amongst the output is this:

dev_base_name = tape14
model = SDLT320
firmware_rev = 4B4B

However, perform the command
# scu -f "/dev/ntape/tape14_d1" show inquiry pages

amongst the output:-

Compaq Tape Inquiry Page:

Page Code: 0xcc
Page Length: 32
Soft Reset Support: No
Command Queuing Support: No
Linked Command Support: Yes
Synchronous Data Transfers: Yes
Support for 16 Bit Transfers: Yes
Support for 32 Bit Transfers: No
Relative Addressing Support: No
Vendor Identification: COMPAQ
Product Identification: 160GB SDLT LDRV
Firmware Revision Level: 5555

Any other ideas? Thanks
