Re: Octane PVO + U2 SDI Problem

SOLVED!
I am deeply embarrassed to admit that the problem was indeed a loose
cable. Once plugged in correctly I get a videoin signal without any
problems.
Note to self: plug first, post later...
Thanks for your help |

You can set the default output signal in software, in the output settings in
the video control panel. It should always be outputting /something/,
though.
What happens if you pick the camera or digital ports as input without the U2
attached? Could you test with an O2 camera on the same port?
Might be worth reseating the ribbon cable that joins the PVO to the MXE
board, and making sure it's in the right socket. I take it Live video
capture from within Media Illusion (or whatever) doesn't work either? Dunno
what to suggest apart form reinstallation |

Hello Lewis,
Thanks for your reply. I've connected the U2's SDI-out to its SDI-in
but got the same error message. THe device itself has no switches or
buttons to generate color bars or any other test pattern.
Any more ideas? |

Okay now this may be an obvious observation, but you connected a *composite*
source to the *SDI* input? Umm... that's just totally not going to work :)
With analogue inputs you get black with nothing connected, but since SDI is
a fully digital path, maybe it needs a valid input to clock its transfers or
something? You shouldn't need genlock since SDI is self-clocking.
Admittedly that's a weird error you've got there. How about you loop the SDI
out to the SDI in, then set the default output signal to colour bars, and
then try the live input again? |

Octane PVO + U2 SDI Problem
|
|
|
Hello,
Octane 2x400MHz, 1GB RAM, PCI-cardcage with FORE ATM card, dual-channel
XIO FC-card attached to a 300GB FC block with one copper FC cable, MXE
with PVO attached and the U2 SDI capture device connected to the O2
camera port of the PVO. Running Irix 6.5.28.
I have tested the PVO and is is capturing and syncing audio and video
just fine. I then connected my Pioneer DVL 919 LD/DVD player's
composite port (for want of better options atm) to the U2's SDI port
to try to check if the SDI capture is working.
When I launch the video panel's live video-in screen it just comes up
with:
"videoin: videoin: Memory to screen transfer failed."
Note the repetition of the "videoin:" bit. I have changed the setting
from "Digital" to "Camera" and everything in between but no success.
When I select "Analogue" the videoin panel comes up, no problem.
Some more info on the U2:
http://www.digitalvideo.de/parser/parser.php?file=/dvc/htm/english/products/u2.htm
Some more info on a fully-fledged setup for the U2 on the O2:
http://www.softimage.com/Products/Other/Illusion/support/supportdocs/hardware/video/video_o2.htm
Do I really have to go through the hassle of having to set up a V-LAN,
genlock, serial connection and so on just to test the SDI ports on the
U2? Please advise.
Many thanks! |
