Well, it seems a bit messy

I've already installed some patches, so I should leave it alone...
And I also haven't made a backup of the root filesystem yet, so perhaps
I should...

These files are used during installs, update installs, and patch
application to create and merge-in changes to system files. The .mrg..*
files are actually merge scripts, the others are used during the
process, along with the 'real' file (it's actually more complicated than
that, but you get the picture).

Not if you ever want to install patches, etc. They're also good for

Since I'm a bit of a n00b with Tru64 (can't say I like it either I
was wondering if anyone could tell me why I get all those different
hidden files in some dirs, especially /etc.
