RMU/BACKUP&/RESTORE, RMU/COPY and RMU/MOVE
are the supported methods to move databases
around. Anything else is likely to cause
problems (as you have discovered). I would
suggest calling Oracle Rdb support - they'll
be able to help you patch up this database.

Hope somebody can help. I am not a dba, and have limited experience
with rdb. Some time ago, before I was here at this site someone moved a
database from one machine to another, but he/she used the hard disk
name when restoring the db. All was fine until we had to moved from an
old emc san to a new one and got new disk numbers. So now we get this
error on the db:
SQL> attach 'filename mishis_1:[FPMIS_DATABASE.WOR]DP_FPMIS.RDB'
cont> ;
%SQL-F-ERRATTDEC, Error attaching to database
mishis_1:[FPMIS_DATABASE.WOR]DP_FPMIS.RDB
-RDB-F-DB_CORRUPT, database filename is corrupt
-RDMS-F-BADROOTMATCH, root file
"MISHIS_1:[FPMIS_DATABASE.WOR]DP_FPMIS.RDB;1" no longer has its
original name "$1$DGA298:[FPMIS_DATA
BASE.WOR]DP_FPMIS.RDB;1"
SQL
$1$dga298 no longer exists.
I have been looking at the rmu/alter commands, and I think the rdbalter
deposit root and deposit file commands are what I need to rediect the
db files to the real location (this time using the logical name!).
Would this be correct and is are there any gotchas?
VMS version 7.3, rdb version 6.1-1.
many thanks
