UPDATE : |
It was Memory parity error - is it possible to disable parity in this
system ? Besides this error, this memory works ok.
If I disable parity in CD and HDD will I have still this error ?
Thanks.

Sorry for so many posts ... but I don't know what to do ...
Memory parity error I saw during IRIX installation.
After reinstallation and normal use I saw exact error code:
PANIC: KERNEL FAULT
PC: 0x88010acc ep: 0xffffcad8
EXC code:160, 'unrecoverable memory error'
Bad addr: 0xc0127000, cause: 0x30004000<CE=-2011975180
Dumping to
/hw/node/io/gio/hpc/scsi_ctlr/0/target/1/lun/0/disk/partition/1/block at
block 0, space: 0x8000 pages
dumpings ....
Availble dump space depleted.
This time after restart system came up...
But anyone can translate this error code for me ?
Thank you in advance.
Best wishes.

Another beautifull error:
PANIC: IRIX Killed due to Bus Error
at PC:0x88014090 ep: 0xffffc550
Dumping to
/hw/node/io/gio/hpc/scsi_ctlr/0/target/1/lun/0/disk/partition/1/ block
at block 0, space: 0x8000 pages
dumpings ....
Availble dump space depleted.
After restart a lot of such messages ... even in console window after
logging in
WARNING: Filesystem "/" corrupt, unmount and run xfs_repair
WARNING: Bad magic # 0x0 in XFS inode buffer 0x885d1b60, starting
blockno (a lot of different blck #)
I started system from different drive and used xfs_repair, but after
restart, I saw only boot file not found :(
Do you have any ideas what is wrong ?
Is it a HDD problem ?
Thank you for help.

Robert |

Take the memory out of the system, clean the contacts of any dust, dirt or oil,
and replace the memory but in a different order, noting which SIMM is which.
If the parity error occurs in the same SIMM each time, then your only option is
to replace the faulty memory. If the error occurs in the same slot every time
then you probably need a new motherboard.

That is completely unrelated to the error you're seeing.

I did it but without results.
I moved this SIMM to different sockets and problem moved also :-(
So I will need to buy this one module - hym536810amg-60
Maybye someone would like to sell this one ? :-)

Thatīs standard PS/2 72 pin SIMM with parity (not faked/ECC).
Should not be too difficult to obtain that. |

I understand that FPM modules without ECC also don't work ?

There is no r4400 o2.
When you talking about an indy you need 72pin 8-32 MB PS2 with parity
60-80ns. Original SGI modules have gold leads but modules with thin
leads also works.
The indigo2 can use the same type of memory but also bigger sizes like
64MB and for r10k systems 128MB.
Each bank holds 4 modules and all must have the same specs.

I thought that first versions of o2 were 4400 ... but it doesn't matter
now ...

This is very good news. But still getting FPM modules with ECC is VERY
HARD.

Good ... very good
I worried that 3 years between those models were too long to have the
same modules.

It's a pity that I2 don't have 2 modules banks as old PCs. In this way I
could use even those 2 working modules.
Thank you for help!

R5000, RM5200, RM7000 as well as R10000 and R12000.

Parity, not ECC.

ECC is just better parity + correction.
Am I right ?
Did anyone tried to use non-ECC modules in R4400 Indigo2 ?
Thanks.
