If I'm not mistaken, the 'x_eoe_6511m.sw' is just the 6.5.11m overlay
for the x_eoe product. Of course when it's installed it just looks like
'x_eoe' from versions (but the description shows the 6.5.11 part... ).

yes I think so, swmgr says it too.

I was going to suggest just connecting to support.sgi.com and
downloading the 6.5.11 overlays, but I just checked it out with my
non-work login (one that doesn't have system with support tied to it)
and was suprised to what I found.

I don t have valid login to support (just a very old one) - that why I
update my stations with my old CDROM 6.5.11 set :|

But overall I would think you just need to get a different copy of the
6.5.11 overlays. Your CDROM that's got the x_eoe package just must be
defective in someway.

I tested with All my CDROMs set (3 sets) and this package have always
the same size (another size expected).... or I'm very unlucky nether the
6.5.11m was burn with this corrupt package :(

don t know what to do..

I knew that you couldn't download freely the latest 6.5.x overlays, but
I thought you could go *back* to older releases and download them. I
was going to suggest that you just do that - download from sgi the
6.5.11 overlays, but I can see now that isn't possible. I only have
access to download one version.... 6.5.22.

But overall I would think you just need to get a different copy of the
6.5.11 overlays. Your CDROM that's got the x_eoe package just must be
defective in someway.

Hu, yes... It's the X11 environment, you may need it :)

yes I suppose :)

swmgr say that archive x_eoe_6511m.sw is corrupt !!!

I try with an other set of CDROMs and this is exactly the same message :(

What's the format of those archives ?
The command "file" says :

x_eoe_6511m: data
x_eoe_6511m.idb: ascii text
x_eoe_6511m.man: c program text with garbage
x_eoe_6511m.src: data
x_eoe_6511m.sw: c program text with garbage
x_eoe_6511m.sw64: c program text with garbage

'c program text with garbage': what does it mean ? it's NOT a text file
at all !!

How to open and repair this file ??

some help, advice, experiences ? I'm completely blocked !!

In another way, I'll test an other CDROM set ....

Great !! NFS work very well !!

but i have another pb:
during a "normal update" a package wasn't good (bad CRC or something
like that) and after that swmgr refuse to close or continue and ask for
an other distribution directory

so i close it with a kill command

I'd like some *good* advices before i begin to break something else in
my station !!! :)

hi

I try to update some system octane 6.x with a distribution server under
linux.

after hours of reading and testing I perform this:

- install tftp + rsh + rlogin daemons on the server : ok
- create an account <sgi> on the server to update with (with .rhosts
rights) : ok
- create and copy cdrom distribution (efs file system) on the tftp home
directory: ok

and now I try to install a patch to perform a live install on my old 6.x
system:
Inst> from sgi@<server>:/tftpboot/irix-6.5.1/installtools

and the only response is :

Connection lost

PS: a rlogin or rsh connexion seems to work well

Q1: how to test a tftp connection ?

any suggestions ?
