Thanks for the clarification.
With the once a year upgrade schedule Mandriva has adopted, and the
fact that 2006 will be released next month, it's still a good time to
start planning for an upgrade. I'm still running MDK 10.0, and 10.1 with
10.0 about to be replaced by 2006. 10.1 will be left as a backup OS,
probably until 2007 shows up, and as my main desktop until I get all the
bugs worked out of 2006.
I'm in no big hurry to get rid of 10.1, as it's been the most trouble free
Mandrake version I've had. I did say plan, not panic. ;-)

I'm running 32-bit version of Mandrake 10.1 powerpack on a
computer with an AMD64 processor. I'm guessing I want to
go by the Mandrake version being 32-bit rather than the
64 bit processor. Right?
(Better to ask a stupid question than risk making a mess). |

You're right. It _does_ say "rar-3.4.1" and not unrar.
It came up with a search for unrar and I didn't think to examine
it more closely than to check the Mandrake version it was for.
I eventually found a definition of PLF at wikipedia.

What does that mean?
Check out http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and configure all your sources
(main,contrib,plf-free, plf-nonfree) etc. Also take a few moments to
read up on urpmi and start using it rather than looking for rpms in
different places.

It means this is the one you want, it's the newest version, and because of
some unclear wording in the license, they have put it in the PLF
repository.
