GRUB
|
|
|
Hello!
I am using 2.0.2, and installed GRUB from /usr/pkgsrc. Created configuration
file (menu.lst) in /usr/pkg/lib/grub/i386-/, where stage1, stage2, ..... etc
files are located.
In trying to install GRUB in MBR, I get the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------
GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB
lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> root (hd0,3)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0xa9
grub> setup (hd0)
Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
grub>
-----------------------------------------------------------
I am already using GRUB in Linux (Slack) as a root partition, but now want
to change it to NetBSD.
Any help will be kindly appreciated.

Hello!
Problem solved. Proceeded as follows:
1. Created /grub directory.
2. Copied all files in '/usr/pkg/lib/grub/i386-' into /grub.
3. After executing # grub, proceeded as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------
GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB
lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the
possible completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> root (hd0,3,a)
Filesystem type is ffs, partition type 0xa9
grub> setup (hd0)
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no
Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... yes
Checking if "/grub/stage2" exists... yes
Checking if "/grub/ffs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /grub/ffs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 14 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
Running "install /grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+14 p (hd0,3,a)/grub/stage2
/grub/menu.lst
"... succeeded
Done.

Thanx for that. May save me having to buy a bigger hammer sometime. |
