o2 bad CPU (red light on power up)
|
|
|
Hello,
Anybody have any experience recovering from a bad CPU (red light on
boot). It's a 250Mhz r10000, so it would be a shame if the thing is
really toast. Do I really have to replace it?
Tried reseating CPU (per SGI's instructions), and system board. No
dice.
Bought the o2 at auction, so no idea what the history of machine is.
thanks. |

Did you already try pulling/reseating RAM?

Also make sure the system board is pushed all the way into the socket,
that sometimes could make a difference.

Yep! That did it for me twice - the plastic lever often is not enough,
one must push _manually_ until the boardīs connector really connects.

Thanks all! Turns out that RAM slots 3 & 4 were bad (thank goodness it
wasn't 1 & 2). I placed the RAM into slots 5 & 6 and everything worked
fine.
So happy now. |
