seagate scorpion on aix5.2

Does anyone have a seagate scorpion 20/40GB tape drive successfully
running on AIX 5.2? If so, I'd like to know what density settings are
working for you.
It is an F50, AIX 5.2 and the drive is a DDS4, STD2401LW.
An old Seagate doc I found said to use blocksize 1024 and to set the
DENSITY setting #1 to 140. But that does not work for me. With density
140 I get this:
# find /tmp -print | backup -ivrf/dev/rmt0
cannot open /dev/rmt0: Invalid argument
Please mount volume 1 on /dev/rmt0
.... and press Enter to continue
<cr>
cannot open /dev/rmt0: Invalid argument
Please mount volume 1 on /dev/rmt0
.... and press Enter to continue
If I set the Density to 0 it will work, but it doesn't seem like
the compression is turned on.
Here's the tctl status output
# tctl -f rmt0.4 status
