I found the above, which might prove helpful. It appears you need a
very late 2.4.23+ kernel, or a 2.6.x - if you don't need woody,
perhaps a Sarge (w/2.6 kernel installer) will have you covered out of
the box.

Since apparently nobody bothers to patch kernel-source on woody
anymore I would certainly advise the OP to use the ones from sid or
sarge. They actually already patch the one in sarge against security
vulnerabilities it seems. I filed a bugreport against
kernel-source-2.4.19 but apparently nobody feels like answering it.
*shrug*

greets,
Wim

Do you know what type of controller the SATA drive is plugged into?
That is more important to know than the drive itself.

Hi:

I chose, perhaps wrongly, to use Woody as my starting point for
installing Debian. I'm using a very new Dell server box, and have two
hardware problems. I hope somebody here knows if a newer Linux kernel
supports the following devices:

Network Interface Controller: Broadcom BCM5751, PCI network express controller

Hard drive: Maxtor, serial ata hard drive, 80gig, Maxtor Calypso.

Calypso may be an internal Dell name, but I'm not with the box right now
to check for more information in the BIOS. Hopefully this may be enough.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Chris
