One thing is not clear for me still. Difference between XFree86 and
X.org.

SuSE ftp has XFree86 drivers for 9.2, but I thought that 9.2 has
Xorg and I should use xorg drivers. I am lost here.

9.2 DOES use x.org

Thanks mjt. So I assume that SuSE has X.org driver on their site. The

fact is that README mentions XFree driver, but it might be a mistake, I
guess.

FWIW, a fairly good place for more info on the "pleasure" of installing
ATI software on Linux is the Linux forums at www.rage3d.com, this being
the fansite for all things ATI. There is at least one thread in the
Linux driver forums about patching 2.6.10 kernels. Although my
experience with ATI and Linux so far is that a visit from Torquemada
would be less painful.

Yes, thanks, I have been already pointed there. I did not manage to
patch my kernel. It should be very easy but it does not work for me (I
definitely do something wrong). Anyway, I am thinking about rolling back
to 2.6.8 until they release a driver with 2.6.10 support.

How can that be? 9.2 is X.org and I just installed the drivers
you mentioned this morning. Try this:

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/ATI/suse92/i386/fglrx/8.8.25/

BUT..... I got mine from here, but there is no readme. I used the readme
from
the first link. Also since you've already run the RPM's add "--force"
as in rpm -Uhv --force during the rpm installs.

Here is where I got my rpm's:

Mr_Bill

what kernel have you got?

I have the above mentioned graphic card and was trying to update the
driver and enable 3D support. The first point I found was here:

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/ATI/suse92/i386/fglrx/8.8.25/

However, I figured out that it is for XFree86, while I have X.org. So I
guess it is not for me.

The next point was the following:

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.2-RC3/i386/suse92/

It has a README, which I tried to follow. Everything was ok till I had
to execute the following:

KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make modules

I've got a vast number of lines with errors. Then Markus mentioned that
since I have a 2.6.10 kernel I have to patch it to work with ATI drivers
and posted the follwoing lonk:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33798874

So I've got the following questions: Am I on a right way? If so, how do
I use the patch (it is a text published on a forum)? If not, what do I
have to do?
