K3b permissions, 9.1
|
|
|
I'm trying to get my SCSI cdrw going on SuSE 9.1 I can burn as root with
cdrecord, but don't get anywhere with K3b, or as a user. the burner
(/dev/sr1) is user:users 666
/usr/bin/cdrecord is root:root -rws--x--x
What do I have to change to get it going?

k3b0.11.20 is now out. at least the source code. rpm's don't seem to be
available for Suse.

I just downloaded it and compiled it and it works for me. I had the problem
with root things before also. This version allows you to burn with either
cdrecord or cdrao. cdrao works best for me.
You may need to install some of the development libraries with Yast but
everthing should be on your install media.
the usual
../configure
make
make install (as root)

What kernel do you use? Try chmod 0755 /usr/bin/cdrecord.

well this worked until the next day. A message on the k3b site suggested to
burn in 'RAW' mode'. This can be configured under properties on the k3b
menu. It seems to work so far

2.6.4-52-default
I've now cracked it, at least for now.
I uninstalled K3b and cdrecord (I think the problem was the latter)
I installed the K3b from <http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/>
(that alone didn't do the trick)
and cdrecord from the packman depository (the i686 one.)
<http://mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.packman-i686/cdrecord-2.01a35-0.pm.2.i686.rpm>
I then used k3bsetup to set the permissions and it worked!
Thanks to all who sent me off in approximately the right direction.
