That would be the "green" pin, but I don't think you want to cut it off unless
you want a very, very purple image on the screen.

signals. It could be an odd problem with the KVM not switching SOG
correctly as it's designed for PeeCee V and H sync signals. But to be
honest it should just be a chip that switched the pins from one input to
the other and outputs to the master VGA socket. Also Sync on Green really
is just RGB with two interleaved signals for sync on the Green.

I wonder if the KVM is switching all of the pins on the sockets or just
the
one's that it expects a signal on??? hummm interesting.

I have a Belkin KVM and it works fine with my SGI's although I have a
Sync
Separator so I'm using only V and H sync signals and no sync on the green
as it's filtered out.

Any ideas.

I have experimented with my set up and besides putting in two 1 ghz
processors and putting in better hardware sata /raid ( the pci slots
real killer as hard to get parts at the computer market...saw ql1040
scsi card and two 9 gb scsi hard drives...just two small in todays
world) I found that if I capture using m-jpeg at 25 frames per second
380 * 284 or so I get a real good grab then I use file convertor to
make vcd or svcd. That leads to another question....

No.

or basically run the sgi 320 as good as it running win2000.

No.

From my
reading on sgi320 websites it seems linux will not run as well as
win2000.

You read well. Win2K is your best (and only) option.
ACTUALLY NT4.0 is slightly better performing during capture
at least it dropped a few less frames at the same settings
I prefer 2000 for the other crap though

I capture 640x480 Mpeg2 using Ulead 6.0 no problems
the bottleneck is disk writes
you need a dedicated disk or striped array
I tried capturing full frames uncompressed 640X480 and it just fit
through a Gigabit (copper) unfortunately I don't have terrabytes of
server space to capture to

Did You consider to use an ata/sata raid PCI card connect to it two
cheap
40Gb (or 120 ... etc) hds and use such a combo as an option
filesystem?

AT 640X480
the MPEG2 worked best at 15 FPS (no drops)
the .MOV option works better 24 fps (a few drops)
full frame uncomp AVI into a GIGABIT adapter was the best

I've seen some interesting hardware for SGI video machines IRIX
various breakout, DE/multiplexers, etc can any of these units be
used
to convert an Analog signal into a digital signal useable to a
windows
machine.

Hello,

I'm trying to fix up an old 320, but before I can load a new OS onto
it, I think I need to get the 320's install CD. Can you help please
and let me know where I may be able to find one ?

Many thanks in advance,

Steven.

you don't need an install CD for 2000

go to SGI and get all their driver / install packages there are like
5 or so for 320 / 540s

play with the boot screen buttons until you get the install new OS
prompts

use your 2000 pro disk and then install the updates you downloaded

make sure you have NO additional cards or drives installed until you
are done installing your OS

then reinstall your modems, DVDs, CDRW etc...

Yes. The O2 does output separate sync (which is used by PCs) besides the
sync-on-green. Basically You can use every generic PC monitor.

However, some cheaper models don't filter out the BIAS on the green line
which is from the sync-signal. On these monitors the picture will look
greenish...

Well it looks like the O2 is really an Indigo 2...should have it in a

could be a problem since it is using SGI 13W3 connector right ? (or so at

any clues about what adapter would I need ?

thanks again...

Zolo,

it is true ! I have seen these boards already. unfortunallety the
seller had to visit an hospital (he is an old man), he'll be out
either the end this week or the next week's beginning.
There are 3 boards, each of them $400. the reason is simple and sad:
this guy is known in .de from the stone-age till now. He worked with
Konrad Zuse (this is NO joke, I have seen the photos), but now -
thanks to the German Gouvernment - he is bankrupt. Must sell his
house, ordered by lay etc. pp. So he gives away his treisures to those
who apprechiate them and he knows they are in good hand. For example I
got a complete Video cutting system. 2 x DigiBeta, 1 x DVCPro Recorder
+ Camera (Camcorder Beta) everything new for about $5.000. I won't
push him, but there is more to come, if anything from interest to this
group, I'll post it immediately.

Back to the DM2. There is a guy from the US I promised to sell him one
of three, but the contact is interrupted. So when I get the beasts the
2nd is yours, the 3rd is mine, ok ? No $.1200 needed, give more what
you want - it will help the old guy a bunch. That's what is all about,
not mentioning the DM2. In this age - findig an appartment etc. is not
that easy. He is one of those people who truly didn't deserve this. He
is some kind of institution of his one - that's Germany's way to say
thank you for the switch to color TV, for inventing DAB and parts of
DBTV and and and... F*** 'em.

Cheers
Ralf
