Except that usage of Windows, Linux, MacOS X, and Solaris is not
exclusive. (Between my computers and my wife's, we have all 4 of
those OS'es running in my home for instance.)

Let me guess: you are using Windows and Linux and your wife is using MacOS
X and Solaris. Right? :-)

Actually, you got it pretty much backwards.

Alan, I was just joking. See the Smile up there?

Actually, you got it pretty much backwards. I use the MacOS & Solaris
machines, her machines are Windows (needed for her work and Windows-only
games) and Linux, and there's a Windows machine we share (I mostly use
it for Quicken, TurboTax, and games). Technically, there's several
other Linux machines, but those are embedded systems that you don't know
you're running Linux on unless you read the fine print in the manuals,
so those don't really count. Yes, we have far too many computers...
(one of these days we'll finally get rid of the Apollo in the storage
closet since that hasn't been used in years).

I have worked in such environment, in which my ISP cable television

Do You want to change /etc/nodename after every reboot ?

Can Solaris read ext2/ext3?

No.

Not correct answer. Look at: http://www.sun.drydog.com/faq/s86faq.html#9.23

Not part of Solaris. Answer is correct.

So .. existance some technical functionalities depends (only ?) is
it part of distribution resources ? :-P

Re-read the question and then read the FAQ again:

"Note that this software is not supported and may contain bugs. Use at
your own risk."

That ext2fs capability is still not part of Solaris.

So how find out CorrectWay(tm) for build [Open]Solaris community ? Surprised)

The question has nothing to do with Open Solaris.

Using you way of thinking: Blastwave or other freware resources for Solaris
also does not exist (only ?) because they are not part of Solaris
distribution (?) 8-o

You are free to add whatever (dis)functionality to your own systems.

Q: Can I run Oracle on Solaris ?

I don't know if you can. I can and have done so.

Samba seems to be a part of Solaris today.
It was not when I last had something to do with Solaris, in 1998.
At that time Sun recommended Samba unofficially as they thought it
solved the multiplatform environment file sharing nicely (Mac and
Windows in printing business prepress). But they did not support it in
any way, that is "run it with your own risk and support". Still their
technicians installed it. I did, too.
So maybe one day Samba will read ext2 or 3. Or some others.

Since samba is installed in /usr/sfw Sun still does not provide much, if
any, support for it. But it does work quite well for making its shares
available to Windows clients. I have been running such a server on
Solaris since Solaris 8 FCS at home.

If samba is running on a Linux box it does make ext2 and ext3 filesystems
available -over the network- using SMB/CIFS. Samba does nothing to make
any local Linux filesystems available to Solaris.

My guess is that you're receiving HP PCL or Postscript from the Windows
clients, your filtering it, and then sending that to the printer.

Content types: postscript
Device: /dev/ecpp0

Any idea?

Thanks

If you need to copy a CD use dd(1)

dd if=/dev/dsk/cddevicename of=/local/cd.iso bs=64k

That will copy everything including bootstraps a.s.o from the cd.

A good CD/RW unit for you UNIX machine is probably less than $50
these days, buy one !

I have used cdrecord for years now , burning Solaris, Linux and
FreeBSD iso's. ( thank you, Jörg )

The problem is that the SPARC CD ISO image is actually comprised of 6 VTOC slices, and they all need to be dd'd off the disk and
then put back together with the correct padding. There's an excellent Blueprint article on doing this. The URL is:
