cannot save to usb stick?

My guess is the stick is U/S. You probably unplugged the thing whilst the pc
was writing to it or accessing a file on the stick.
You should always click the icon to remove the devices before unplugging.
Drag you files over to the HD then buy a new stick.
Formatting probably won't fix it.

(I gather after unplugging it from a Linux machine)-I cannot
